Eureka Man Arrested on Drug Charges After Fleeing Police

Eureka Police arrested Christopher Smith, 42, on felony drug charges after he fled officers on foot in the 3300 block of Glen Street on May 13.

An officer spotted Smith leaving a nearby park around 11:30 a.m. When the officer approached, Smith ran toward a residence and jumped a fence into the yard. He jumped back over moments later and fled on foot when officers tried to make contact again. Officers caught Smith nearby after a brief pursuit.

During the chase, officers found a backpack Smith had discarded containing burglary tools.

Smith faces charges of felony methamphetamine possession, violation of probation, possession of burglary tools, and resisting arrest.
