A Red Flag Warning is in effect for southeastern Humboldt County, northern Lander County, and portions of Elko County until 11:00 PM PDT tonight, October 10. The National Weather Service (NWS) in Elko has issued this warning due to critical fire weather conditions.
Residents in Fire Weather Zones 424 (Southeastern Humboldt County and northern Lander County), 437 (Humboldt County-Quinn), 438 (Western Elko County, northern Eureka and Lander Counties north of Interstate 80), 469 (Central Elko County), and 470 (Eastern Elko County) should be aware of increased fire danger. Sustained southwest winds are expected to reach 15-25 mph, with gusts up to 25-40 mph. Humidity levels will be as low as 15-25%.
These conditions mean any fires that develop are likely to spread rapidly. Outdoor burning is not recommended. The NWS advises that a combination of strong winds, low relative humidity, and warm temperatures can contribute to extreme fire behavior. Take immediate precautions to prevent wildfires.
