Tropical Storm Warning Issued for Barbour County: Act Now
A Tropical Storm Warning has been issued for Barbour County, including Eufaula, effective immediately until October 10, with dangerous winds, major flooding potential, and possible tornadoes; residents should complete preparations now.
BARBOUR COUNTY – A Tropical Storm Warning has been issued for Barbour County, specifically impacting Eufaula, as of October 9 at 9:56 PM CDT by the National Weather Service (NWS) in Birmingham, AL. This warning is effective immediately and expires October 10 at 6:00 AM UTC (1:00 AM CDT).
Residents are advised to act now to complete preparations for dangerous wind conditions, with potential for gusts up to 50 mph and sustained winds of 15-25 mph. The NWS indicates a potential for wind speeds of 58 to 73 mph, which could cause significant damage to roofing, siding, and outbuildings. Unsecured objects may become dangerous projectiles, and several large trees could be snapped or uprooted. Scattered power and communications outages are possible.
A Flood Watch is also in effect for Barbour County, with an additional 1-3 inches of rain expected, and locally higher amounts. This brings a potential for major flooding. Emergency plans should include the likelihood of evacuations and rescues. Heed any flood watches and warnings; failure to take action could result in serious injury or loss of life. Rivers and tributaries may overflow, and floodwaters could enter structures, making roads impassable.
There is also a potential for a few tornadoes. Residents should include this in their emergency plans and be ready to shelter quickly if a tornado warning is issued. For more information, visit ready.gov/hurricanes.
