The USPS offers an online appointment scheduling system for passport services. Customers can schedule appointments by selecting their service type (New Passport Only, New Passport with Photo Services, Passport Renewal, Digital Photo Services Only, or Hard Copy Photo Services Only), specifying the number of adults and minors under 16 years old requiring service, searching by location or date, and selecting an available time slot. Appointments can be searched up to 4 weeks in advance and are not available on holidays. The system allows users to search for appointments at the 5 closest Post Office locations within a specified radius (1, 5, 10, 15, 20, 40, 60, 80, or 100 miles). Each appointment takes approximately 15 minutes per person, and applicants are instructed to arrive 10 minutes before their scheduled time. Users must complete and print their passport application form from https://pptform.state.gov before applying. The appointment confirmation process requires identity verification through either text message or email. Customers can manage scheduled appointments, modify details until the modification deadline, cancel appointments, and search for new time slots if needed. For passport renewals, eligible individuals may renew by mail or online rather than scheduling in-person appointments. USPS Digital Photo Services are available at many locations and comply with all US Department of State regulations. The system notes that the Department of State charges additional fees for Passport Books and/or Cards as well as processing fees, separate from USPS charges. Walk-in passport hours are available at select locations for those unable to schedule appointments online or who fail identity verification.
