Dangerous Rip Currents Expected Along Gulf Coast Through Saturday

A Rip Current Statement has been issued for coastal areas of Alabama and Florida, with dangerous rip currents expected from Thursday morning through Saturday evening.

Coastal residents and visitors in Mobile, Baldwin, Escambia, Santa Rosa, and Okaloosa Counties are advised of a Rip Current Statement issued by the National Weather Service (NWS) Mobile, AL. Dangerous rip currents are expected from Thursday morning, September 30, through Saturday evening, October 2.

This alert affects Mobile Coastal and Baldwin Coastal Counties in Alabama, and Escambia Coastal, Santa Rosa Coastal, and Okaloosa Coastal Counties in Florida.

The NWS warns that rip currents can sweep even strong swimmers away from the shore into deeper water.

To ensure safety, the NWS provides the following critical instructions: Swim near a lifeguard. If caught in a rip current, relax and float. Do not swim against the current. If able, swim in a direction following the shoreline. If unable to escape, face the shore and call or wave for help.

This Rip Current Statement is effective immediately and remains in effect until Saturday evening, October 2. Community members in the affected areas should exercise extreme caution when near the water.
