Tropical Storm Warning Issued for Inland Escambia: Shelter Immediately

A Tropical Storm Warning is in effect for inland Escambia County, including Century, Walnut Hill, and Molino, with dangerous winds expected within 36 hours; shelter immediately and prepare for major flooding from heavy rain.

Staff Writer
10/10/2026 · Escambia County edition

A Tropical Storm Warning has been issued for inland Escambia County, effective immediately as of October 10 at 1:02 AM CDT by NWS Mobile AL. Tropical storm-force winds are expected within the next 36 hours. Residents in Century, Walnut Hill, and Molino should complete all last-minute preparations and shelter from dangerous wind conditions now.

Peak wind forecasts anticipate 20-30 mph with gusts up to 50 mph, with potential for winds reaching 58 to 73 mph. Significant wind damage is possible.

While storm surge and tornadoes are not expected to be significant threats, major flooding from heavy rain is a potential impact. Emergency plans should include the possibility of major flooding, and evacuations and rescues are likely. Heed any flood watches and warnings, as failure to take action could result in serious injury or loss of life. Rivers and small streams may rapidly overflow, and many structures could be affected by floodwaters, making driving dangerous.

The warning is effective until October 10, 2026, at 9:15 AM UTC. For evacuation and shelter information, contact Escambia County EMA at 850-471-6400 or visit myescambia.com/beready. For additional storm impact information, visit www.weather.gov/mob.
