High Surf Warning for Escambia, Santa Rosa, Okaloosa Coasts
A High Surf Warning is in effect for Escambia, Santa Rosa, and Okaloosa Coastal Counties until 9 PM CDT today, with dangerously large waves and rip currents expected.
Coastal residents and visitors in Escambia, Santa Rosa, and Okaloosa Counties are advised to stay out of the water today due to a High Surf Warning issued by the National Weather Service (NWS) Mobile, AL. The warning is in effect until 9:00 PM CDT this evening, October 10th.
Dangerously large breaking waves, reaching 6 to 9 feet in the surf zone, are expected. Life-threatening swimming conditions and significant beach erosion are anticipated. Additionally, a High Rip Current Risk is in effect through Sunday afternoon, posing a serious threat to swimmers.
The NWS advises everyone to remain out of the water due to these life-threatening surf conditions. It is also crucial to stay off jetties, piers, and other waterside infrastructure. Breaking waves can sweep individuals off these structures into dangerous seas, and rip currents can carry even strong swimmers away from shore into deeper waters.
