An Extreme Storm Surge Warning is in effect for Escambia Coastal, including Pensacola, Pensacola Beach, and Perdido Bay, issued by the National Weather Service Mobile AL this evening, October 9th, at 6:53 PM CDT. This warning is immediate and critical for resident safety, remaining effective until October 10th at 3:00 AM UTC.

Residents in affected areas should shelter immediately from life-threatening conditions. Peak storm surge inundation of 6-9 feet above ground is possible through Saturday morning. All ordered evacuations should be complete, and evacuees should be in shelters well away from surge flooding. Remain in a safe location and do not venture outside; move to upper floors to escape rising water if necessary.

Winds equivalent to a Category 1 Hurricane are expected, with peak gusts potentially reaching 120 mph. These hurricane-force winds are expected to continue until late this evening. This wind threat could reach speeds greater than 110 mph, posing a risk of catastrophic wind damage. Shelter from life-threatening wind and be prepared to move to the safest place inside your shelter if needed.

A Flood Watch is also in effect, with an additional 2-4 inches of rain expected, leading to potential major flooding, evacuations, and rescues. A tornado threat with potential for several tornadoes also persists. Stay informed and move quickly to the safest place within your shelter if a tornado warning is issued.
