High Rip Current Risk, Coastal Flood Advisory for Gulf Coast
A High Rip Current Risk and Coastal Flood Advisory are in effect for coastal Alabama and Florida until Monday evening, October 5, issued by the NWS Mobile AL.
Residents and visitors along the coastal areas of Alabama and Florida are advised of a High Rip Current Risk and a Coastal Flood Advisory, issued by the National Weather Service (NWS) Mobile AL.
The High Rip Current Risk is in effect immediately, October 3 at 7:56 PM CDT, and will continue through Monday evening, October 5 at 7:00 PM CDT. This affects Mobile Coastal and Baldwin Coastal Counties in Alabama, and Escambia Coastal, Santa Rosa Coastal, and Okaloosa Coastal Counties in Florida. Dangerous rip currents are expected, capable of sweeping even strong swimmers away from shore.
A Coastal Flood Advisory is also in effect from midnight tonight, October 3, until 8 AM CDT Sunday, October 4, for the same coastal counties. Minor coastal flooding is expected, potentially impacting lots, parks, and roads. While isolated road closures are possible, widespread closures are not anticipated.
Actionable Information:
- For Rip Currents: Swim near a lifeguard. If caught in a rip current, relax and float. Do not swim against the current. If possible, swim parallel to the shoreline. If you cannot escape, face the shore and call or wave for help.
- For Coastal Flooding: If travel is necessary, allow extra time as some roads may be closed. Do not drive around barricades or through water of unknown depth. Take measures to protect flood-prone property.
These alerts were issued by the NWS Mobile AL.
