COFFEE COUNTY, AL – A Tropical Storm Warning has been issued for Coffee County, including Enterprise and Elba, by the National Weather Service (NWS) Tallahassee FL, effective October 10 at 2:07 AM EDT. Residents must shelter immediately as life-threatening wind and major flooding are unfolding.
Tropical storm-force winds are expected within the next 36 hours. Peak winds are forecast at 25-35 mph with gusts to 50 mph, but the NWS warns of potential wind between 74 and 110 mph. Plan for life-threatening wind of equivalent CAT 1 or 2 hurricane force. Last-minute efforts should focus solely on protecting life, as considerable wind damage is possible.
A Flood Watch is in effect, with potential for major flooding rain. Emergency plans should include the potential for major flooding from heavy rain, and evacuations and rescues are likely. Heed any flood watches and warnings; failure to act will likely result in serious injury or loss of life. Rivers and tributaries may rapidly overflow, and floodwaters can enter many structures, making roads dangerous and potentially washing out bridges.
The situation is also somewhat favorable for a few tornadoes. Residents should stay within their shelter, remaining informed of the latest tornado situation. If a tornado warning is issued, move quickly to the safest place within your shelter.
This warning expires October 10, 2026 at 10:15 AM UTC. For more information, visit NWS Tallahassee at https://www.weather.gov/tallahassee, Alabama Emergency Management Agency at https://ema.alabama.gov, or Coffee County Emergency Management at http://coffeecounty.us/239/Emergency-Management.
