Tropical Storm Warning Issued for Coffee County: Prepare for Severe Weather
A Tropical Storm Warning is in effect for Coffee County, including Enterprise and Elba, with residents urged to complete preparations and seek safe shelter immediately due to severe winds, potential major flooding, and tornado threats.
A Tropical Storm Warning has been issued for Coffee County, including Enterprise and Elba, by the National Weather Service (NWS) Tallahassee FL, effective immediately as of October 9 at 5:17 AM EDT. Residents are urged to complete all preparations and move to safe shelter as soon as possible.
Significant impacts are expected from severe winds, potential major flooding rain, and several tornadoes. Peak wind gusts of up to 45 mph are forecast, with a potential for dangerous winds of 58 to 73 mph. This could lead to damage to roofing, siding, mobile homes, and significant tree damage, potentially rendering some roads impassable and causing scattered power outages. Remaining efforts to protect life and property should be completed immediately.
A Flood Watch is in effect, with an additional 3-6 inches of rain expected, and locally higher amounts. This poses a threat of major flooding, which may prompt evacuations and rescues. Rivers, streams, and ditches could overflow, and flood waters may enter structures. Heed any flood watches and warnings; failure to take action will likely result in serious injury or loss of life.
The situation is also favorable for several tornadoes, with a few possibly intense. Those in manufactured homes or on boats should relocate to safe shelter. Listen for tornado watches and warnings and be ready to shelter quickly if issued. This warning is effective until October 9, 2026, at 1:30 PM UTC.
