Tropical Storm Warning Issued for Coffee County: Act Immediately
A Tropical Storm Warning is in effect for Coffee County, including Enterprise and Elba, with residents urged to seek shelter immediately due to potential dangerous winds, major flooding, and tornadoes.
COFFEE COUNTY – A Tropical Storm Warning has been issued for Coffee County, including Enterprise and Elba, by the National Weather Service (NWS) Tallahassee FL, effective immediately as of October 9 at 8:28 AM EDT. Residents must complete all remaining preparations to protect life and property now and move to safe shelter before hazardous winds begin.
Significant impacts are expected. Peak wind forecasts are 20-30 mph with gusts up to 45 mph, but there is a potential for winds of 58 to 73 mph. This could cause damage to roofing, siding, porches, and mobile homes, especially if unanchored. Expect several large trees to be snapped or uprooted, potentially rendering some roads impassable due to large debris. Scattered power and communications outages are also anticipated.
A Flood Watch is in effect, with an additional 3-6 inches of rain expected, and locally higher amounts possible. This presents a potential for major flooding, which may prompt evacuations and rescues. Rivers and tributaries could rapidly overflow their banks. Failure to take protective actions against flooding could result in serious injury or loss of life. Heed all flood watches and warnings.
The situation is also favorable for tornadoes, with a potential for several, some possibly intense. Listen for tornado watches and warnings. If a tornado warning is issued, be ready to shelter quickly. Those in manufactured homes or on boats should relocate to safe shelter now. This warning expires today, October 9, 2026, at 4:30 PM UTC.
