Tropical Storm Watch Issued for Coffee County: Prepare for Dangerous Winds and Flooding
A Tropical Storm Watch has been issued for Coffee County, including Enterprise and Elba, by the NWS Tallahassee, warning of dangerous winds, major flooding, and potential tornadoes; residents must prepare immediately.
COFFEE COUNTY – The National Weather Service (NWS) in Tallahassee, FL, has issued a Tropical Storm Watch for Coffee County, effective October 7 at 11:00 PM EDT. This watch includes the communities of Enterprise and Elba, and indicates potential for severe weather. Residents should immediately begin preparations for significant impacts from wind, heavy rainfall, and the possibility of tornadoes.
Wind speeds are forecast to be 20-30 mph with gusts up to 35 mph, but the NWS warns of potential for wind speeds of 58 to 73 mph. Significant damage to roofing, siding, and outbuildings is possible, with mobile homes particularly vulnerable. Several large trees may be snapped or uprooted, and roads could become impassable due to debris. Scattered power and communications outages are also expected. Residents must act now to complete preparations before hazardous winds begin.
Major flooding from heavy rainfall is a significant concern, with 3-6 inches forecast, and locally higher amounts possible. Extensive impacts are anticipated, including potential evacuations and rescues. Rivers and streams may rapidly overflow their banks, and floodwaters could enter numerous structures. Driving conditions will become dangerous, with many road and bridge closures. Strongly consider protective actions if you are in a flood-prone area, and heed all flood watches and warnings.
There is also a potential for a few tornadoes. While impacts are currently assessed as limited, isolated tornadoes can cause damage and disrupt emergency plans. If a tornado warning is issued, be prepared to shelter quickly. The Tropical Storm Watch is set to expire on October 8, 2026, at 7:00 AM UTC.
