Arapahoe County $22M Road Maintenance Program

Arapahoe County crews will place 68,000 tons of asphalt on unincorporated roads this season, the largest maintenance effort in recent years, following voter approval of Measure 1A in November 2024.

Road and Bridge Manager Eric McKinnon said the expanded funding targets neighborhoods where roads have deteriorated. "Most of these roadways are in desperate need of maintenance," McKinnon said.

The county's 11-person paving crew began work in April in New World West, Normandy and Columbine neighborhoods and along Manilla Road between I-70 and East Arizona Avenue. Contractors will completely rebuild roads in Tall Grass and Copperleaf neighborhoods this summer. Built in the early 2000s, those roads have reached the end of their lifespan.

The largest project comes in July near Strasburg, where 18,000 tons of asphalt will resurface residential streets that haven't been paved in over 25 years. Work will also extend to the Travois neighborhood and Price Road north of Deer Trail.

More than 11,000 tons of asphalt will go to South Potomac Street and South Chambers Road near Dove Valley Regional Park. Pavement preservation crews will maintain approximately 116 lane miles, sealing cracks and repairing worn surfaces.

Measure 1A increased road maintenance funding from $9.9 million last year to $14 million in 2026, with an additional $6 million for reconstruction and $2 million for pavement preservation.
