A Red Flag Warning is in effect for southeastern Humboldt County, northern Lander County, Humboldt County-Quinn, western Elko County, northern Eureka and Lander Counties north of Interstate 80, central Elko County, and eastern Elko County. The National Weather Service in Elko, NV, issued the warning today, October 10, at 11:01 AM PDT, and it will remain in effect until 11:00 PM PDT tonight.

Residents in these areas should exercise extreme caution as critical fire weather conditions are expected. Sustained southwest winds of 15-25 mph, with gusts up to 25-40 mph, combined with humidity as low as 15-25%, will create an environment where any fires that develop are likely to spread rapidly. High winds may also cause active wildfires to spread further.

Outdoor burning is not recommended during this period. The combination of strong winds, low relative humidity, and warm temperatures significantly increases the risk of extreme fire behavior. A Red Flag Warning signifies that critical fire weather conditions are either occurring or are expected to occur shortly.
