Edinburg Achieves Zero Homicides in 30 Years
Mayor Omar Ochoa told a sold-out crowd Thursday that Edinburg recorded zero homicides in 2025, the first time in more than three decades the city hit that milestone.
Ochoa delivered his first State of the City Address at the Edinburg Arts, Culture and Event Center, highlighting $407 million in approved construction valuations—the highest total in city history. Retail sales surpassed $2 billion.
"A city is not made of concrete and steel; it is made of its people," Ochoa said. "You are the heart, the soul, the engine of Edinburg."
The city launched a Drone as First Responder program and opened its own police academy. Overall crime declined from previous years.
The city hosted more than 350 events in 2025. Ochoa credited partnerships with the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley and regional healthcare systems for job creation.
