Chemung County Poultry Registry: Bird Flu Precautions

Staff Writer
June 11, 2026
Chemung County asks poultry owners to register flocks as bird flu precautions begin

Chemung County Emergency Services is asking residents who own poultry to register their flocks with the county.

Owners can register by calling the Chemung County Emergency Management Office at 607-737-2031. The registration enables the county to send owners updates about avian influenza, or bird flu, if cases appear in the area.

Avian influenza spreads quickly among domestic poultry flocks. County officials use registration records to identify poultry locations and contact owners rapidly if the disease is detected locally.
