Hauppauge Semiconductor Firm Lands $50M NY State Grant Boost

Sensitron Semiconductor, a Hauppauge-based leader in high-reliability power management solutions, received $50 million from the Empire State Development's economic development board to expand its manufacturing operations in Suffolk County. The grant, announced recently, targets growth in semiconductor production critical for aerospace, defense and medical applications, aligning with New York's aggressive strategy to onshore advanced chipmaking. Sensitron, with decades of operations on Long Island's tech corridor, will use the funds to upgrade facilities and scale output amid surging demand.

The award fits into the Long Island Regional Economic Development Council's (LIREDC) broader success, which has disbursed $565 million in funding since its inception, leveraging $6 billion in total investments across priority projects. Of that, $197.5 million went to high-impact initiatives like Sensitron's, supporting 1,111 grants that have diversified the region's economy from traditional manufacturing to cutting-edge tech. Hauppauge, a hub for electronics firms in the Town of Islip, stands to gain significantly as the project creates skilled jobs amid a national semiconductor renaissance fueled by federal incentives.

State officials emphasized the grant's role in securing New York's place in the $280 billion CHIPS and Science Act ecosystem, which aims to rebuild domestic production. Sensitron's expansion comes as Long Island firms like AmpliTech Group report booming revenues—$25 million in fiscal 2025, up 163% year-over-year—signaling robust demand for local semiconductor innovation. Suffolk County Executive Ed Romaine praised the move, noting it fortifies the Island's resilience against global disruptions while positioning Hauppauge as a semiconductors hotspot.

This infusion underscores Governor Kathy Hochul's focus on tech corridors like Long Island, where proximity to Stony Brook University and Plum Island's legacy in R&D accelerates growth. With Navy contracts in play for defense semiconductors, Sensitron's windfall could ripple through local suppliers in Ronkonkoma and Melville, enhancing New York's economic edge as of early 2026.
