Bucksport Recycling Program Suspended for Automated System

Bucksport Halts Recycling Program to Switch to Automated Sorting System

Bucksport has suspended recycling services at its Transfer Station while preparing to shift to an automated waste processing system.

The town will partner with Innovative Resource Recovery, a Hampden-based facility that uses machinery to extract recyclables from unsorted household trash. Residents will no longer need to separate materials before drop-off.

During the interim period, the Transfer Station will dispose of all materials as solid waste. Town officials chose to pause recycling now rather than maintain the current program until the new system launches.

The town has not announced a start date for the new arrangement. Officials said they will provide updates as the Hampden facility prepares to accept Bucksport's waste.
