Residents across eastern Kentucky should secure outdoor objects as a Special Weather Statement has been issued for strong wind gusts expected on Saturday, October 10th. The National Weather Service in Jackson, KY, issued the statement at 8:52 PM EDT on October 9th.
Southeasterly winds are forecast to be between 10 to 20 mph, with gusts potentially reaching 35 mph. Isolated gusts up to 40 mph are possible, particularly in exposed areas near Lake Cumberland. These conditions are expected from late Saturday morning through the afternoon, coinciding with the initial bands of rain from the remnants of Hurricane Isaias. Winds are anticipated to lessen once steady rainfall begins.
The affected counties include Fleming, Montgomery, Bath, Rowan, Estill, Powell, Menifee, Rockcastle, Jackson, Pulaski, Laurel, Wayne, McCreary, Whitley, Knox, Elliott, Morgan, Johnson, Wolfe, Magoffin, Floyd, Lee, Breathitt, Knott, Owsley, Perry, Clay, Leslie, and Martin. Residents in these areas should take precautions to secure any outdoor items that could be blown around by the wind.
