High Wind Watch Issued: Gusts Up To 70 MPH Possible

A High Wind Watch has been issued for multiple counties in our area, with gusts up to 70 mph possible from late tonight until Sunday morning, potentially causing power outages and difficult travel.

Residents in Johnson, Cocke Smoky Mountains, Southeast Greene, Unicoi, Southeast Carter, Blount Smoky Mountains, Sevier Smoky Mountains, and Southeast Monroe counties are advised to secure loose outdoor objects immediately. The National Weather Service (NWS) Morristown TN has issued a High Wind Watch, effective from late tonight, October 9, 2026, until 8:00 AM EDT on Sunday, October 11, 2026.

Southeast winds are expected to increase to 20 to 35 mph, with gusts potentially reaching up to 70 mph. These damaging winds could lead to downed trees and power lines, with widespread power outages possible. Travel, particularly for high-profile vehicles, may become difficult.

The NWS urges residents to monitor the latest forecasts and warnings for updates. Fasten loose objects or shelter them in a safe location before the onset of the winds.
