A Red Flag Warning is in effect for Southern Mono County, the Northern Sierra Front, Southern Sierra Front, West Humboldt Basin, and Lahontan Basin until 9:00 PM PDT on Saturday, October 10. The National Weather Service in Reno, NV, issued this severe warning, indicating critical fire weather conditions are expected.

Affected areas include Southern Mono County; Northern Sierra Front (Carson City, Douglas, Storey, Southern Washoe, Western Lyon, and Far Southern Lassen Counties); Southern Sierra Front (Alpine, Northern Mono, Southern Lyon, and Western Mineral Counties); West Humboldt Basin (Pershing County); and Lahontan Basin (Churchill and Eastern Mineral Counties).

Southwest winds of 15 to 25 mph with gusts up to 35 to 45 mph are expected, combined with minimum relative humidity between 14 to 22 percent for 3 to 6 hours. These conditions can cause fires to spread rapidly and intensely. Residents are instructed to avoid outdoor activities that could cause a spark near dry vegetation, such as yard work, target shooting, or campfires. Please follow all local fire restrictions.
