4 weeks agoHamilton Announces Adaptive Sports League Baseball Season
The Hamilton School District is proud to announce the Southeastern Wisconsin Adaptive Sports League’s first spring baseball season. The league was created to ensure high school students with disabilities have access to the same high-quality, competitive athletic opportunities as their peers.
“I am so proud of this team,” exclaims Adaptive Sports Baseball Coach Dylan Bolin. “Every single day they continue to amaze me with their athleticism, their passion and their joy for the game.” Bolin calls the athletes’ enthusiasm infectious.
“This league means a lot because it offers more than just learning a sport,” explains Justine Jie Liu, Ph.D. Her son Jeffery is a junior at Hamilton High School and an ASL athlete. “It gives Jeffrey a sense of belonging, opportunities to make friends and a safe space to grow through teamwork and shared experiences. He learns perseverance, confidence and most importantly, enjoys the process,” she adds.
The Southeastern Wisconsin Adaptive Sports League is a partnership between the Hamilton School District and the Oak Creek-Franklin School District, with a shared goal of expanding participation and welcoming additional school districts in the future. The league was launched at the beginning of the 2025-26 school year. Indoor baseball is one of three seasonal offerings in the league, which also includes indoor soccer in the fall and bowling in the spring.
Jenny Schultz says the ASL is a large part of the reason that her son Connor is thriving as a freshman at Hamilton High School. “Being part of the ASL has allowed Connor to develop friendships and a strong sense of belonging to the school community,” says Schultz. He beams with pride when he puts on his Hamilton Charger uniform. The support from the community and peers is unmatched!”
“This league is about more than sports. It’s about opportunity, inclusion and community,” says Hamilton Athletics and Activities Director Jeff Newcomer. “The support for our athletes has been extraordinary, and we’re truly thankful for the impact it’s had across our school community.”
The athletes will compete in four indoor baseball games during the month of May. The community is welcome and encouraged to attend. Melissa Kappeler, Dylan Bolin and John Roubik are serving as coaches for the inaugural ASL indoor baseball team.

May 7, 5 p.m. at Hamilton High School
May 14, 5 p.m. at Oak Creek High School
May 21, 5 p.m. at Hamilton High School
May 28, 5 p.m. at Oak Creek High School
“This program has become a highlight for our whole family,” shares Kristen Kender, whose son Lucas is a Hamilton High School junior and an ASL athlete who has participated in all three sports. “Lucas has truly thrived in the ASL sports league this year. One of the most meaningful parts of the program has been the relationships he builds with the coaches. These coaches truly embody the idea of ‘leave them better than you found them.’”
Lisa Pichler’s son Bryce is a senior at Hamilton High School. “Bryce has participated in many different sports but never for the school,” says Pichler. “He watched his older brother play volleyball here at Hamilton for four years, so Bryce getting the opportunity to have his brother in the stands cheering for him on a high school team has been a great experience!”
Assistant Superintendent of Special Services John Peterson worked to establish the ASL so that students with disabilities can experience the many benefits that come from participating in high school athletics. “Our goal is to provide students with disabilities the same benefits of competitive sports that many students experience in traditional programs,” Peterson explains. “We are grateful for our partnership with the Oak Creek-Franklin School District and hope to welcome additional districts to the league.”
“The interest in this league is clearly growing and we hope even more students will consider joining next year,” says Kender. “Please come watch what it’s all about at the upcoming indoor baseball games!”
