MARINE PATROL / PARK PATROL Seasonal (Summer) GENERAL SUMMARY: Performs general duty police work in the protection of life and property; the enforcement of laws and ordinances; the investigation of crimes; the maintenance of order; and the response to emergency situations primarily on the local waterways and in county parks. An employee in this class is responsible for the prevention of crime, apprehension of criminals, traffic enforcement, and other police actions necessary to protect the public. The work involves an element of personal danger. Although the work is performed under the general supervision of a higher ranking officer, the Deputy must be able to exercise independent judgment and initiative. The nature of the work requires that the Deputy deal tactfully and effectively with the public and maintain a professional and objective attitude. EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE: High School Diploma or GED; Associates Degree in Law Enforcement or related field preferred. One year of experience as a police or sheriff's deputy preferred.
