Hannah Community Center Elevator Closure June 22

Staff Writer
June 14, 2026
Hannah Community Center closes elevator June 22 for safety upgrades

The Hannah Community Center will shut down its elevator for three weeks starting June 22 to comply with updated Michigan safety codes.

The modernization project upgrades the elevator control unit to meet the state's implementation of the ASME A17.3 elevator safety code. Workers will disconnect power and install a lockout to prevent accidental re-energization. The state's elevator section will inspect the system before it returns to service.

The closure will affect access to second-floor services, including public meetings, classes and room rentals. The building's service elevator and stairway will remain open. Parks, Recreation and Arts staff will help residents reach the second floor.

For assistance, contact Parks, Recreation and Arts at the facility, located at 819 Abbot Road. More information is available at cityofeastlansing.com/Hannah.
