Tropical Storm Warning Issued for Early County: Prepare for Severe Weather
A Tropical Storm Warning has been issued for Early County, including Blakely, effective immediately until October 10 at 1:15 AM UTC, with severe winds, major flooding, and potential for numerous tornadoes expected.
EARLY COUNTY – A Tropical Storm Warning has been issued for Early County by the National Weather Service (NWS) Tallahassee, FL, effective immediately as of October 9 at 5:05 PM EDT. This warning remains in effect until October 10 at 1:15 AM UTC.
Residents in Blakely should prepare for hazardous wind with potential for 15-25 mph winds and gusts up to 50 mph. All remaining efforts to protect property should be completed as soon as possible. Move to safe shelter before hazardous winds arrive.
A Flood Watch is also in effect. Early County is expected to receive an additional 2-4 inches of rain, with locally higher amounts. This poses a major flooding risk, and emergency plans should include the potential for extensive flooding, evacuations, and rescues. Heed all flood watches and warnings; failure to take action could result in serious injury or loss of life.
The NWS indicates a very favorable situation for many tornadoes, some of which could be intense. Those in manufactured homes or on boats are urged to relocate to safe shelter immediately. Listen for tornado watches and warnings and be ready to shelter quickly if a warning is issued. Tornadoes can cause extensive damage and hinder emergency operations.
