Johnson’s death brought an end to the life of a wife, mother, grandmother and ordained minister who served in Christian ministry with her husband, Anthony Johnson. The couple founded Alter Call Ministries.
Johnson held doctorates in Divinity, Metaphysics and Bible study, and her family remembered her as a devoted Christian who served the Lord. She also followed college football, supporting the Georgia Bulldogs while she worked toward becoming a Tennessee Volunteers fan.
Johnson and Anthony Johnson had been married for 27 years. She is survived by her husband; sons Christopher Johnson and Logan Johnson, who is married to Nicole; daughter Danielle Johnson and her fiancé, Chad Stoyles; five grandchildren and one grandchild on the way.
Her surviving family also includes brothers Bobby, Donnie and Matthew Gunter; aunts Janice Campbell and Marylin Savage; uncles Terry Page, who is married to Kaye, and Tarrell Gunter, who is married to Elaine; mother-in-law Clem Johnson; father-in-law Bruce Johnson of Dandridge; sisters-in-law Diana, Karen and Teresa Johnson; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Johnson’s parents, William Donald Gunter of Braselton, Georgia, and Hazel Gunter of Gainesville, Georgia, preceded her in death. Her grandparents, Hubert and Eva Gunter and James and Amanda Campbell, also preceded her.
Smith-Reagan Funeral Home in Rutledge handled arrangements. The family held Johnson’s service at 1 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 9, at the funeral home, followed by graveside services at the Johnson Family Cemetery in Sneedville.
Pastor and longtime family friend Scott Lance conducted the services, and Daniel Gilstrap provided the singing. The Aug. 9 service and burial marked the family’s public remembrance of Johnson following her death five days earlier.
