Lionel Richie Halts Tour for Heart Procedure in [City Name]

Music star Lionel Richie has paused his touring schedule following a heart procedure, his representative confirmed Tuesday.

The 77-year-old singer underwent a procedure for atrial fibrillation, a common irregular heart rhythm, according to his representative. The representative stated the procedure went perfectly and that Richie is doing well but will take time off before returning to the stage.

Atrial fibrillation can cause fatigue, shortness of breath and chest pain, according to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Richie postponed two shows earlier this summer after falling ill onstage during a tour stop in late June. In late August, a source close to Richie's tour indicated the singer checked himself into a hospital as a precautionary measure.

Richie has three tour dates scheduled for late September and early October in San Francisco, Columbus and Chicago. He is also expected to perform his "King of Hearts" shows at the Wynn in Las Vegas in October and November.
