Hurricane Isaias made landfall near Destin on Friday evening as a Category 2 storm with winds near 105 mph, bringing heavy rain, strong winds, and tornadoes to the Florida Panhandle, Southeast Alabama, and Southeast Mississippi.
The storm weakened to a post-tropical system early Saturday morning. Strong westerly wind shear and dry air intrusion slowed its intensity before landfall. Duval County experienced breezy conditions and scattered showers, while areas west of the landing zone sustained the heaviest damage.
The remnant system continues moving northeast through Tennessee and the Southern Ohio Valley this weekend. Heavy rain and isolated tornadoes threaten areas from Florida to Virginia through Saturday. Localized flooding poses a particular risk in low-lying areas where saturated ground amplifies rainfall impacts.
