La Plata County Switches to LPC Alerts Emergency System

Staff Writer
June 12, 2026

La Plata County replaced its CodeRED emergency alert system with LPC Alerts, automatically moving all existing subscribers to the new platform.

LPC Alerts sends location-specific notifications by cell phone call, text message, and email to residents in affected areas during emergencies such as wildfires, floods, gas leaks, and severe weather.

Residents who registered for CodeRED do not need to re-enroll. New residents and visitors can sign up at www.lpcgov.org/LPCAlerts.

Rob Farino, director of emergency management for La Plata County, urged residents to enroll ahead of the active fire season. He recommended residents create household disaster plans, maintain defensible space around their homes, and evacuate immediately when orders are issued under the county's Ready, Set, GO! system.

Residents can find disaster planning templates at www.ready.gov/plan.
