A Special Weather Statement has been issued by the National Weather Service (NWS) Chicago, warning of locally dense fog affecting portions of northeast Illinois and northwest Indiana this morning. Motorists are advised to increase following distances and use low beam headlights if encountering dense fog while driving.
The moderate severity alert is in effect from 7:08 AM CDT and is expected to expire at 9:30 AM CDT today, September 27. Visibility may be reduced to one-quarter mile or less, primarily outside of Chicago. The NWS states that the fog will gradually dissipate through mid-morning.
Affected areas include Boone, McHenry, Lake, De Kalb, Kane, DuPage, Kendall, Grundy, Kankakee, Northern Cook, Central Cook, Southern Cook, Northern Will, Southern Will, Eastern Will counties in Illinois, and Lake and Porter counties in Indiana.
Drivers in these areas should exercise caution, maintain increased following distances, and utilize low beam headlights to improve visibility and ensure safety until the fog lifts.
