The National Weather Service issued a Flood Watch for Pinellas County through the weekend, with a Coastal Flood Advisory in effect Friday through Saturday from Clearwater Beach to St. Pete Beach.

South Pasadena expects up to 6 inches of rain this week. Heavy downpours combined with elevated tides and the new moon could cause localized flooding on roads and in low-lying areas, city officials said.

The City of South Pasadena inspects its drainage system annually and monitors it year-round during storm season. Officials found no blockages in the drainage system, including areas near the intracoastal waterway that typically flood.

City officials urged drivers not to attempt crossing flooded roadways. Residents should turn around and find an alternate route if they encounter standing or moving water.

Flooding can occur even when drainage infrastructure functions properly, especially in waterfront areas.
