Miami Man Sues Over Prolonged Immigration Detention
Anzor Matsev, held in immigration detention in Miami, filed a habeas corpus petition June 2 challenging his continued confinement, arguing the government has detained him beyond the legal limit set in a 2001 Supreme Court ruling.
Matsev says authorities cannot deport him to Russia in the foreseeable future and contend they violated his due process rights by denying him a bond hearing, an explanation for his detention, and a removal timeline. He also states the prolonged confinement creates financial hardship for his family, which depends on his income.
The case is filed in U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Florida under 28 U.S.C. § 2241. Attorneys interested in pro bono representation can contact [email protected].
