A Red Flag Warning is in effect until 7 PM MDT this evening, October 9, 2026, due to critical fire weather conditions. The National Weather Service in Cheyenne, WY, has issued the warning for a portion of Wyoming, encompassing Niobrara/Lower Elevations of Converse/Thunder Basin National Grassland; Middle North Platte River Basin/Niobrara and Converse High Plains; North Laramie Range and Adjacent High Plains; North Laramie Valley/Shirley Basin; Ferris/Seminoe/Shirley Mountains; Central and West Carbon; Upper North Platte River Basin; North Snowy Range Foothills; and Bordeaux/Chugwater/Wheatland.
Southwest winds are expected to reach 15 to 25 mph with gusts up to 40 mph. Relative humidity will be critically low, ranging between 15 to 24 percent. These conditions create an environment where any fires that develop will spread rapidly. Outdoor burning is not recommended during this period.
Area residents and those traveling through the affected regions should exercise extreme caution. The National Weather Service advises officials and fire crews in the field of this Red Flag Warning.
