Dense Fog Expected Across Region Early This Morning: Drive with Caution
Dense fog is expected across Suwannee, Baker, Inland Nassau, Eastern Hamilton, Western Hamilton, Northern Columbia, Southeastern Columbia, Western Duval, Southwestern Columbia, Coffee, Jeff Davis, Bacon, Appling, Wayne, Atkinson, Pierce, Brantley, Inland Glynn, Coastal Glynn, Echols, Clinch, Inland Camden, Coastal Camden, Northern Ware, Northeastern Charlton, Southern Ware, Western Charlton counties this morning, with visibility potentially as low as 1/4 mile until approximately 9 AM EDT; motorists should slow down and leave extra distance.
A Special Weather Statement has been issued by the National Weather Service (NWS) Jacksonville FL for areas of dense fog development expected early this morning, September 30, 2026. This alert is effective immediately and is anticipated to expire around 8:30 AM UTC (4:30 AM EDT).
Readers in Suwannee, Baker, Inland Nassau, Eastern Hamilton, Western Hamilton, Northern Columbia, Southeastern Columbia, Western Duval, Southwestern Columbia counties in Florida, and Coffee, Jeff Davis, Bacon, Appling, Wayne, Atkinson, Pierce, Brantley, Inland Glynn, Coastal Glynn, Echols, Clinch, Inland Camden, Coastal Camden, Northern Ware, Northeastern Charlton, Southern Ware, Western Charlton counties in Georgia should be aware of significantly reduced visibility. The NWS states that visibility could be as low as 1/4 mile or less at times, particularly from the I-10 corridor northward across Southeast Georgia, through sunrise. Dense fog advisories may be posted for areas of inland Southeast Georgia along the Altamaha River Basin. Conditions are expected to improve between 8 AM and 9 AM this morning.
Motorists are advised to be alert for rapidly changing conditions. If driving, slow down and leave extra distance ahead to allow for sudden stops. The nature of this fog means that visibilities will vary greatly over short distances.
