A Red Flag Warning has been issued for Southern Mono County, the Northern and Southern Sierra Fronts, West Humboldt Basin, and Lahontan Basin, effective from 11 AM to 9 PM PDT Saturday. Residents in these areas are advised to avoid all outdoor activities that could cause a spark due to severe fire weather conditions.

The National Weather Service in Reno NV issued the warning, which affects Fire Weather Zones 274, 420, 421, 423, and 429. This includes Southern Mono County, Carson City, Douglas, Storey, Southern Washoe, Western Lyon, Far Southern Lassen, Alpine, Northern Mono, Southern Lyon, Western Mineral, Pershing, Churchill, and Eastern Mineral Counties.

Forecasters anticipate southwest winds reaching 15 to 25 mph with gusts up to 35 to 45 mph. Relative humidity is expected to drop to between 14 to 22 percent for 3 to 6 hours. These conditions significantly increase the risk of rapid fire growth and intensity.

To protect our community, residents must avoid yard work that could create sparks, target shooting, and campfires. Follow all local fire restrictions. For ongoing updates, visit weather.gov/reno, and for preparedness tips, consult livingwithfire.info.
