A Tropical Storm Warning is in effect for Houston, including Dothan and Cottonwood, with hazardous winds, major flooding, and tornado threats expected within the next 36 hours; residents must prepare immediately.

A Tropical Storm Warning has been issued for the Houston area, including Dothan and Cottonwood, effective immediately. The National Weather Service (NWS) Tallahassee FL issued the warning on October 8 at 8:01 AM EDT, indicating that tropical storm-force winds are expected within the next 36 hours. The warning is set to expire on October 8, 2026, at 4:15 PM UTC.

Residents in affected areas should act now to complete preparations before hazardous winds arrive. Efforts to protect property should be underway. Peak wind forecasts are 15-25 mph with gusts up to 35 mph, but potential exists for winds of 39 to 57 mph. Limited damage to porches, awnings, sheds, and unanchored mobile homes is possible, along with downed tree limbs and potential power outages.

A Flood Watch is also in effect for the region, with 2-4 inches of rain expected, and locally higher amounts. The NWS warns of the potential for major flooding, which may prompt evacuations and rescues. Heed any flood watches and warnings; failure to take action could result in serious injury or loss of life. Rivers and small streams may overflow banks, and floodwaters could enter structures. Roads may become impassable.

Additionally, the situation is favorable for tornadoes, with the potential for several, some possibly intense. Those in manufactured homes or on boats should prepare to relocate to safe shelter. Listen for tornado watches and warnings and be ready to shelter quickly if one is issued. Significant impacts from tornadoes could include damage to roofs, mobile homes, and power loss.
