Tropical Storm Warning for Houston: Act Now for Severe Weather
A Tropical Storm Warning is in effect for Houston, including Dothan and Cottonwood, with immediate action advised for severe winds, major flooding, and potential tornadoes, according to the NWS.
A Tropical Storm Warning has been issued for Houston, effective immediately, by the National Weather Service (NWS) Tallahassee FL. Residents in Dothan and Cottonwood are urged to complete all preparations now before hazardous wind conditions begin. This warning was issued on October 8 at 5:22 PM EDT and expires on October 9 at 1:30 AM UTC.
Houston is under threat from tropical storm force winds, major flooding rain, and potential tornadoes. Peak winds of 15-25 mph with gusts up to 45 mph are forecast, with a potential for sustained winds of 39 to 57 mph. Prepare for limited wind damage, including to porches, awnings, and mobile homes, along with scattered power outages.
A Flood Watch is in effect, with 2-4 inches of rain expected, and locally higher amounts. Major flooding is possible, which may prompt evacuations and rescues. Heed all flood watches and warnings; failure to act could lead to serious injury or loss of life.
The NWS also indicates a situation favorable for several tornadoes, with a few possibly intense. Listen for tornado watches and warnings and be ready to shelter quickly. Those in manufactured homes or on boats should relocate to safe shelter. For more information, visit weather.gov/tallahassee or ema.alabama.gov.
