Strong Thunderstorm Warning: Gusts Up to 40 mph for Houston, Jackson, Seminole

A Special Weather Statement has been issued for Houston, Jackson, and Seminole counties due to a strong thunderstorm with wind gusts up to 40 mph, effective until 3:45 PM EDT/2:45 PM CDT today. Seek shelter indoors if outdoors.

Residents in Houston, Jackson, and Seminole counties should be aware of a Special Weather Statement issued by the National Weather Service (NWS) Tallahassee FL, effective until 3:45 PM EDT/2:45 PM CDT today, October 2, 2026. A strong thunderstorm is currently being tracked.

At 3:08 PM EDT/2:08 PM CDT, Doppler radar indicated a strong thunderstorm located 9 miles south of Cottonwood, moving north at 10 mph. This storm is capable of producing wind gusts up to 40 mph. The NWS advises that gusty winds could knock down tree limbs and blow around unsecured objects.

The affected areas include Cottonwood, Dothan, Taylor, Ashford, Cowarts, Malone, Rehobeth, Avon, Madrid, Gordon, Campbellton, Memphis, Pansey, Crosby, Grangeburg, Garretts Crossroads, Wilson Mill, Southern Junction, Keytons, and Jacobs. Frequent cloud-to-ground lightning is also occurring with this storm.

If you are outdoors, consider seeking shelter inside a building immediately. Lightning can strike up to 10 miles away from a thunderstorm. Ensure you are in a safe shelter inside a building or vehicle to protect yourself from lightning hazards.
