A Tropical Storm Warning has been issued for Seminole County, effective immediately, with hazardous winds, major flooding, and tornado potential; residents must act now to prepare and secure property.

SEMINOLE COUNTY, GA – October 8, 2026 – The National Weather Service (NWS) Tallahassee has issued a Tropical Storm Warning for Seminole County, effective immediately and expiring at 1:30 AM UTC on October 9, 2026. Residents in Donalsonville should prepare for hazardous conditions.

Forecasters anticipate winds of 15-25 mph with gusts up to 40 mph. Property protection efforts should be underway, and preparations for limited wind damage should be completed now. Potential impacts include damage to porches, awnings, and unanchored mobile homes, as well as broken tree limbs, some fallen trees, and scattered power outages. Hazardous driving conditions are possible.

A Flood Watch is in effect, with 3-6 inches of rain expected and locally higher amounts. This presents a potential for major flooding. Emergency plans should account for possible evacuations and rescues. Residents in flood-vulnerable areas should strongly consider protective actions immediately. Failure to act can result in serious injury or loss of life. Rivers, small streams, and creeks may overflow, leading to widespread flooding of structures and dangerous driving conditions.

The NWS also indicates a situation favorable for several tornadoes, some potentially intense. Those in manufactured homes or on boats should relocate to safe shelter. Listen for tornado watches and warnings and be ready to shelter quickly if a warning is issued. Tornadoes can cause significant damage, power loss, and communications failures, and hinder emergency efforts.
