Freeze Warning Issued: Protect Plants and Pipes Tonight
A Freeze Warning is in effect tonight until Saturday morning for central and western Upper Michigan, with temperatures as low as 28 degrees expected to impact plants and outdoor plumbing.
A Freeze Warning has been issued for portions of central and western Upper Michigan, urging residents to take immediate action to protect sensitive plants and outdoor plumbing. The National Weather Service in Marquette, MI, issued the warning, effective from 8:28 PM EDT tonight, October 2, until 10:00 AM EDT Saturday, October 3.
Sub-freezing temperatures as low as 28 degrees Fahrenheit are expected across the affected areas, which include Ontonagon, Houghton, Baraga, Marquette, Alger, Luce, Gogebic, Iron, Dickinson, Menominee, Delta, Southern Schoolcraft, Northern Schoolcraft, and Southern Houghton counties.
These conditions could kill crops and other sensitive vegetation. Unprotected outdoor plumbing may also be damaged. Residents are advised to take steps now to cover or bring indoors any tender plants. To prevent water pipes from freezing, wrap or drain them, or allow them to drip slowly. For in-ground sprinkler systems, drain them and cover any above-ground pipes.
