Republicans gain redistricting advantage heading into midterm elections

Republicans succeeded in securing advantageous congressional district boundaries following the 2020 census, a development that could translate into significant gains in November's midterm elections.

Analysts project the GOP will capture roughly 10 additional U.S. House seats if the redrawn districts perform as anticipated. The redistricting process, which occurs every decade after the census, allows states to redraw congressional boundaries based on population changes.

The outcome reflects Republicans' stronger position in state legislatures when the redistricting cycle began.
