ILT Founder Dr. Bielfeldt Steps Down as President
Dr. Dennis D. Bielfeldt will step down as president of the Institute of Lutheran Theology by March 1, 2027, the institution's Board of Directors announced this week. He will continue as Chancellor of the Christ School of Theology, the seminary at ILT's core.
Bielfeldt founded ILT nearly two decades ago. As Chancellor, he will focus on theological scholarship, doctoral formation, faculty development, the Global South Theological Education Initiative, and the Center for Congregational Revitalization.
"ILT has grown from a bold vision into an accredited institution serving students, congregations, pastors, church leaders, and scholars," said Rev. Kip Tyler, Chair of the ILT Board. "We are grateful for Dennis's faithful service as Founding President and look forward to his continued leadership as Chancellor."
The Christ School of Theology holds accreditation from the Association of Theological Schools and offers programs through the doctoral level. Christ College serves the undergraduate mission in classical liberal arts. The institution also operates ILT Press, Verba Vitae, and Promissio.
The Board will identify and appoint ILT's next president through a planned process. Academic programs, partnerships, student services, donor relationships, and operations will continue without interruption.
