Destin residents and property owners can now provide feedback on a comprehensive rewrite of the city's Land Development Code (LDC). This initiative aims to modernize land use regulations and align them with the city's Comprehensive Plan.
The LDC rewrite involves an article-by-article review and reorganization of the city's land use rules. The primary goal is to update these regulations and resolve discrepancies between the adopted Comprehensive Plan, which guides Destin's future development, and the existing LDC.
Key articles under review include General Provisions/Legal, Administration, Nonconformities, Zoning Districts, Subdivision Regulations, General Development Regulations, Resource Conservation, Sign Regulations, Transportation Corridor Management, Impact Fees, and the Glossary.
The city encourages community input. Residents can submit comments through a dedicated online form, specifying their role (resident, property owner, business owner, visitor) and the relevant LDC section and page number.
Additionally, the Engineering Division is soliciting feedback on draft construction and design details within the Destin Design Manual (2024). These details aim to streamline design and construction processes with standardized, easy-to-use guidelines. Comments on these specific details should be emailed to City Engineer Robert Tomasek at [email protected], with marked-up details scanned and attached if possible.
More information and the comment submission form are available on the City of Destin's official website. The city stresses the importance of community involvement in shaping Destin's development regulations.
