Derby Parks Get Lifesaving Defibrillators | AED Locations
Derby has installed Automatic External Defibrillators at six city parks, with three units already in place at High Park as of May 29.
The City of Derby and Derby Recreation Commission set a goal in 2026 to equip parks with AEDs. The Rick Ruff Family donated $10,000 toward the project.
High Park received three outdoor SaveStation units at the south restrooms, pickleball courts, and ballfields. Madison Avenue Central Park houses an indoor AED near its restrooms.
Seven additional outdoor SaveStations will go to Decarsky Park (three units), Warren Riverview Park (two units), Madison Avenue Central Park, Garrett Park, and Tanglewood Ballfields (one unit each).
AEDs deliver electrical shocks to restore normal heart rhythm during cardiac arrest. The devices provide voice instructions and automatically analyze heart rhythms, allowing bystanders to help before paramedics arrive.
The outdoor SaveStation units are weatherproof and accessible during park hours. Derby already maintains AEDs at all municipal buildings, including City Hall, the Senior Center, Library, Public Works, Police Department, and both fire stations.
