The United States Postal Service offers an online appointment booking system for passport services. Users can schedule appointments by selecting a service type (New Passport Only, New Passport with Photo Services, Passport Renewal, Digital Photo Services Only, or Hard Copy Photo Services Only), specifying the number of adults and minors under 16, and searching by location or date. Appointments can be booked up to 4 weeks in advance and are not available on holidays. The system allows users to search within a 1 to 100-mile radius of a specific city, state, or ZIP code to find participating Post Office locations. Each appointment takes approximately 15 minutes per person, and applicants are asked to arrive 10 minutes early. Users must provide contact information (first name, last name, phone number, and email address) and verify their identity through either text message or email verification. The system displays estimated USPS charges, though the Department of State charges additional fees for Passport Books and/or Cards as well as processing. Passport renewal appointments cannot be scheduled online if the applicant is eligible to renew by mail or online through the State Department. Users unable to verify their identity online after multiple attempts are directed to visit a USPS location during walk-in passport hours. All appointment information, including confirmation numbers and modification options, can be managed through the system. A Privacy Act Statement indicates that collected information is used to schedule appointments and identify fraudulent transactions, authorized under 39 U.S.C. 401, 403, and 404.
