15-Year-Old Arrested in Freeport Shooting
A 15-year-old Freeport resident faces seven felony charges after shooting someone on Stella Drive Thursday morning, prompting a manhunt that forced two schools into lockdown.
Cameron Harris emerged from wooded areas near Highway 20 at 8:36 a.m. and ran south across the highway, where deputies arrested him on South Jackson Street. The Walton County Sheriff's Office responded to a 911 call at 7:44 a.m. reporting the shooting.
Deputies established a perimeter and deployed the Walton Correctional K-9 Team, the agency's drone unit, and Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission K-9 teams to search for Harris.
Freeport Learning Center and Freeport Elementary School locked down due to their proximity to the incident. The lockdowns ended after Harris was taken into custody.
One person was injured. Authorities attribute the shooting to a domestic dispute but have not released the victim's name or condition.
Harris faces attempted murder, aggravated battery, tampering with a victim, tampering with physical evidence, resisting without violence, possession of a firearm by a minor, and criminal mischief. Attempted murder and aggravated battery are first-degree felonies; tampering charges are third-degree felonies.
Harris was transported to the Walton County Jail. He is presumed innocent unless convicted in court.
