"New 28,457-foot facility will provide extra shelter space and is fully funded by Penny for Pinellas Pinellas Board of County Commission Chair Dave Eggers and Palm Harbor officials, with dozens of area residents, broke ground Friday, April 17, on a new recreation center in Palm Harbor that will provide wide-ranging recreational opportunities for the community. The 28,457-square-foot facility will also provide emergency shelter space for up to 498 people. This facility will replace the old Palm Harbor Senior Center, originally built in 1979 at the same site. The facility will include an elevated, indoor track and gymnasium with public space for basketball, pickleball, and events with up to 400 people, a fully operational kitchen, back-up power generation, and up-to-date office and conference space. County to Hold Town Hall About Clearwater Properties

"The Pinellas County Board of County Commissioners will hold a town hall on Wednesday, April 29, from 6 – 8 p.m. to share information and receive community input about the future of the County’s properties in downtown Clearwater. The event will be held in the Palm Room at 333 Chestnut Street, Clearwater. County staff will provide a brief presentation, conduct an exercise to gather feedback, and listen to members of the public. Those planning to attend are asked to register through Eventbrite to help us determine space needs. Pinellas County owns 17 properties encompassing 32 parcels and about 24.5 acres in downtown Clearwater that will be made available for redevelopment with the anticipated move to a new government center near U.S. 19 and Ulmerton Road. A request for negotiations with developers is expected to be released this spring. The County plans to select a private partner to redevelop these parcels: The project has four goals: generate revenue to offset the cost of the new County campus through a competitive market-driven process; select an experienced and qualified developer to activate downtown Clearwater; negotiate a structured deal with controls to hold the developer accountable to meet short- and long-term goals; and choose a development plan that will increase the County’s and City’s tax base from the highest and best use of the properties. Info and updates about the new County campus and the Clearwater properties are on the County can be found at pinellas.gov/moving.
