Deer Park Students Tour Hofstra's Rare Book Collection
Students from Deer Park High School and Robert Frost Middle School toured Hofstra University's rare book collection in April, examining centuries-old texts and learning bookmaking techniques.
Librarian Evan DeNaro and library media specialist Anne Lotito-Schuh brought their Library Leaders clubs to Axinn Library to view archival materials, including a 16th-century geometry book, a 17th-century map of Long Island, and an 1800s edition of Lewis Carroll's "Alice in Wonderland" with painted edges. Students also explored the university's graphic novel collection.
After the tour, students created accordion journals to document their experience and practice binding techniques.
