Deer Park High School Seniors Win PE Leadership Awards
Deer Park High School seniors Giovanna Luppy and Thomas Wesnofske received the 2026 Suffolk Zone Awards from the New York State Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance.
The Suffolk Zone Chapter selects one male and one female student from each Suffolk County high school based on achievement in physical education, character and leadership.
Luppy competes in girls cross-country, winter track, spring track and Unified basketball. She serves as president of the Patriot Club and vice president of the International Culture Club, and participates in Falcon Leaders, Best Buddies, Art Club, Student Booster Club and SADD Club.
"Physical education taught me how new experiences build confidence and teamwork," Luppy said. "By supporting and motivating others, we create a positive environment where everyone feels comfortable learning and improving."
Wesnofske competes in boys cross-country, swimming and spring track. He earned All-League honors in swimming and track and holds memberships in the National Honor Society, Math and Science Honor Society, Tri-M Music Honor Society and DECA. He won a trophy at the 2026 DECA State Career Conference in Rochester.
"Physical education taught me to try new things and interact with students across the school," Wesnofske said. "I've developed an appreciation for building inclusive communities where every student feels valued."
